From the Desk of Walter Sorensen

As we move into the final weeks of our summer and into the beginning of another school year, I want to take a moment to extend one last congratulations to our Class of 2021 before they begin their freshman year of college.
Upon receiving the results of their Diploma Programme exams in July, we learned that for the fourth consecutive year, we have a 100% passing rate for the IB Diploma Programme.  This places Alcuin School in elite company within the IB world.
By nearly every metric, they exceeded the standard and displayed growth. This is a remarkable feat, especially given the challenges they faced throughout the year.
In my address to them during graduation, I said that resiliency is a quality of character that will take you far in college and life. This class has been the personification of resilience.
In the face of a worldwide COVID pandemic that forced many of them to switch to virtual learning, this senior class pushed through, completing assignments and service projects, all the while winning medals in athletics and helping bring home Alcuin’s first state championship.
In the end, 72 colleges and universities sent our seniors acceptance letters, with seniors earning more than $4.2 million in scholarships.
I remain immensely proud of this group of Alcuin graduates. All of us are excited to watch them engage a world in dire need of their leadership, compassion, creativity, and innovation.
