Curious Learners in a Prepared Environment

Children as young as 18 months old begin their first days at Alcuin in the Montessori Early Childhood program.
These young learners bring with them insatiable curiosity and a mind that absorbs every detail of the world around them. The Montessori classroom environment is uniquely designed and meticulously prepared so that children may explore, inquire, and experience the intrinsic joy of learning. Students in each classroom are fully supported by a trained Montessori Guide and Assistant, both of whom are always present to students.

In every Early Childhood and Primary classroom, natural light is plentiful, and each room is connected to an extension garden where children are invited to learn about the natural world. In the classroom, tables, chairs, pitchers, mops and even toilets are appropriately sized, allowing children to become active participants in the care of their own environment. Montessori refers to this as Practical Life. As children become more confident in Practical Life skills, their desire for independence grows. The theme for students at this age is, “Help me do it myself.”
