Higher-Order Thinking

A new world of possibilities and challenges welcomes freshmen when they open the doors to the Upper School building. Here, students partner with talented and devoted teachers who help them uncover and amplify their unique strengths and purpose.
It is through this program that students come to understand their place in the world, the value of cross-culture understanding, and the myriad opportunities that await.
Upper School students spend the first two years (Levels 9-10) in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). As juniors, they move into the highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), which challenges students to synthesize all they have learned throughout their educational journey and display mastery in their final project–the Extended Essay.

Together, the MYP and DP curriculum provide university-level classes that expand the scope of academic work as students grow confident in their abilities, gain clarity about passions, and learn to leave behind their comfort zone. Students embrace the opportunity to be independent thinkers who tackle challenges such as building a self-sustaining ecosystem, collaborating with a cinema student to score an award-winning film, or working virtually with IB students from around the world to study new applications for blockchain technology.
