Some of the most meaningful lessons are not only spoken. They are shaped by hand, lived in community, and felt long after the moment has passed.
In the South Wing, there is a wall covered in hearts. Created by our Primary students as part of a lesson with Spanish teacher Valeria Fernandez, the exhibit is called Corazón, the Spanish word for heart. What began as a vocabulary lesson soon became something much more: a reflection of who we are as a school.
Each student began with the same materials, the same word, and the same invitation to create. Ms. Fernandez modeled two ways to form a heart from clay, and then the students took it from there. They experimented. They collaborated. They taught one another. They imagined new possibilities beyond what had been demonstrated.
And the result is striking: no two hearts are alike.
Some are simple and classic. Some are layered, intertwined, or gathered in clusters. Some are painted in bold colors; others in careful dots and delicate detail. Every heart reveals the distinct imagination, perspective, and spirit of the child who made it.
That is Alcuin.
We are a community made stronger by the uniqueness of each person within it. Every student, every family, every faculty and staff member brings something valuable and irreplaceable to this school. We come from different backgrounds. We carry different stories. We see the world through different lenses. And yet, here, those differences are not barriers. They are part of the beauty of who we are together.
Our Montessori and IB journey calls each child to grow into who they are with confidence, curiosity, and purpose, while also learning that they are part of something larger than themselves.
That is what this wall of hearts so beautifully expresses.
Each one stands on its own.
Each one matters.
And together, they create something far more powerful: a shared portrait of community.
This is what it means to be one Alcuin.
Not that we are all the same, but that we are united.
Not that every heart looks alike, but that every heart belongs.
Not that our paths are identical, but that we move forward together, rooted in our mission, strengthened by our diversity, and connected by a shared sense of purpose.
The Corazón display, originally meant to remain only through the end of February, will now stay in the South Wing through the end of the school year by popular demand. It is easy to understand why. It is more than an exhibit. It is a reminder of the kind of community we are building every day at Alcuin: one where each child is known, each voice is valued, and each person helps shape the whole.
Heart by heart, student by student, family by family, we are creating something beautiful together.
We are many stories, many gifts, many perspectives.
And we are one Alcuin.
