Dear Alcuin Community,
July 1 marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the life of our school.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am honored to formally welcome Alcuin's new Head of School, Dr. Paola V. Clark. Her arrival signals not only a leadership transition but also a moment of reflection, recommitment, and renewed aspiration for our community.
Leadership transitions are defining moments. They invite us to consider where we’ve been and where we’re going. I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to Walter Sorensen, whose visionary leadership and steadfast commitment over the past 16 years have helped shape the Alcuin we know and love. I also offer our appreciation to our faculty, staff, parents, students, and alumni for the trust and partnership you’ve shown throughout this journey.
The Board undertook a comprehensive, inclusive, and thoughtful search process over several months with the help of national search consultants. We gathered survey input from all Alcuin community groups, narrowing from a starting pool of nearly 50 candidates through dossier reviews and interviews to a group of finalists we invited for individual visits to campus. During time spent with students, teachers, parents, and alumni, one candidate rose consistently and compellingly: Dr. Clark. Her blend of intellect, humility, global perspective, and deep respect for both Montessori and IB philosophies made it clear; she is the leader to pen the next chapter in Alcuin’s story.
Dr. Clark brings decades of experience in independent and international education, with a track record of innovation, inclusive leadership, and a profound belief in nurturing lifelong learners. Her values align seamlessly with our mission: to inspire compassionate global citizens who approach challenges with confidence, creativity, and curiosity.
In her first months, Dr. Clark will begin where all great educators begin, with active listening. Beginning in August and continuing through the fall, she will host a series of community-wide listening sessions, focus groups, and surveys to engage every voice. These conversations will serve as the foundation for a shared vision of the future.
As the Board’s unanimous choice, we are confident in Dr. Clark’s leadership and excited for the road ahead. We remain committed to transparency, collaboration, and excellence as we work together to ensure that Alcuin continues to thrive and serve as a model of internationally-minded education.
Please join us in giving Dr. Clark a warm Alcuin welcome. In the coming weeks, we will share opportunities for you to connect with her directly. I know she is eager to meet each of you. Below, you will find a heartfelt letter from Dr. Clark as she assumes her new role and joins the Alcuin community.
Here’s to the next 60 years, rooted in our mission, inspired by our community, and guided by a vision for the future.
Keli Jones, M.D.
