Ty Hathorn
If Hathorn could take Alcuin students on a field trip to anywhere in the world and anyplace in time, he would like for students to experience the Medieval Period to see what William Manchester called “a world lit only by fire.”
Ty Hathorn studied History and Theology at Spring Hill College before moving into Educational Policy and Leadership at Southern Methodist University. He has been a teacher and administrator in IB schools for the past 15 years.
He began his career at Alcuin as a History/Global Politics teacher in 2018 and since 2019 has served as the Director of the Upper School. He and his wife Timberly have three daughters, Willa (8) and Phoebe (4), both of whom attend Alcuin, and Lane, who will turn 1 in the Spring of 2024.
If he could take Alcuin students on a field trip to anywhere in the world and anyplace in time, he would like for students to experience the Medieval Period to see what William Manchester called “a world lit only by fire.” And, on a personal level, if he could pick a person (living or not, teacher or not) whose class he would enroll in today, he would choose either a creative writing class taught by George Saunders or The Science of Hitting by Ted Williams - likely two very different pedagogical approaches.
