Marcy Tanter

Dr. Tanter encourages everyone to try at least one study abroad experience.
Dr. Marcy Tanter is the MYP English teacher in the Upper School. She spent more than 20 years in higher education and is eager to help Alcuin students prepare for life after high school.

A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Tanter earned a B.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her M.A. in English from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She spent her junior year of college at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, which sparked her lifelong love of studying abroad.
As a college professor, Dr. Tanter took students on trips to England, Scotland, and South Korea. She encourages everyone to try at least one study abroad experience and is open to discussing her trips with anyone who is interested.

Dr. Tanter is passionate about South Korea, where she spent a 6-month period as a Fulbright senior scholar and taught at Dongguk University in Seoul. The Korean peninsula is the current focus of her current research projects and humanitarian activities. Outside of work, she can often be found (spending too much time) watching Korean dramas on Netflix, much to her family’s chagrin!
