A Message From our Search Committee Chair

Dear Alcuin Community,

It seems impossible that we are nearing the end of another successful school year, with anticipation growing for the graduation of another impressive class of seniors.
I hope that this year has been as rewarding for your family as it has been for mine.

I’m writing to you today as a follow-up to Walter Sorensen’s recent announcement that he will be retiring as Head of School following the 2024-25 school year. While replacing any member of our outstanding Alcuin administration is a tall order, I’m well aware that the task of finding a new Head approaching the caliber of Walter is a daunting challenge. That said, I’m confident that our Board of Trustees is up to the task.

I have accepted the honor (and challenge) of serving as Chair of the Head of School Search Committee, and am pleased to report that the work has already begun. We have retained the leading national recruitment firm of Carney, Sandoe & Associates to guide Alcuin through the search process. The principal consultants working with us are Mark Davis and Rhonda Durham, who together bring a wealth of experience leading Head of School searches and a strong network of connections throughout independent schools. Mark and Rhonda will be visiting our campus on May 6 and 7 to meet with many members of our community and gain a broader perspective of our needs and wishes for the next head of school. Keep an eye on your inbox for additional information about opportunities to meet with our consultants, along with a community-wide survey that will be sent by the end of this month.

Alcuin School is an extraordinary school and this is an exciting time in its history. On behalf of our Head of School Search Committee, we look forward to collaborating with you on this endeavor. I’m particularly grateful (in advance) for your participation in the surveys and meetings in the coming months.
