Evan McGarvey

McGarvey directs the Peer Editing Program, an opportunity to have Alcuin high school students work with a select group of Alcuin seniors in revising their formal essays.
Evan McGarvey teaches Language and Literature and Literature courses in the DP program at Alcuin. He joined the faculty in the fall of 2022, but has been an Alcuin parent since 2020. 

Before Alcuin, McGarvey taught in university, parochial and independent school settings in Florida and in Pennsylvania. As a teacher, he is particularly focused on developing critical and expository writing skills in his students. McGarvey directs the Peer Editing Program, an opportunity to have Alcuin high school students work with a select group of Alcuin seniors in revising their formal essays.  
 
He has completed Level 1 International Baccalaureate training, and his model units and syllabi have been used in subsequent training programs. He has a bachelor’s degree in English with high honors in the major from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in Poetry from The Pennsylvania State University, where he was a Milton B. Dolinger fellow, and a master’s degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
