Cecilia Mir

She has loved to dance for as long as she can remember. While living in Barcelona, she and her husband participated in competitions and have continued doing so here in the United States.
Cecilia Mir is the Upper School Biology teacher and has been teaching at Alcuin since 2019, three years after moving to Dallas from Barcelona.

Dr. Mir studied Biology at the Universitat de Barcelona and earned her Ph.D. from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in 2004. In 2003, she collaborated with the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) Demokritos in Athens to focus on DNA repair research.

During her senior year in college, she was honored to work at The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) – Ocean Science for a Healthy Planet | Institut de Ciències del Mar, which sparked her interest in research and social commitment to biology.

Dr. Mir loves fostering animals and has three dogs and five cats. She started a YouTube channel and hopes to create more content in the future and share her passion for biology with the world.

She has loved to dance for as long as she can remember. While living in Barcelona, she and her husband participated in competitions and have continued doing so here in the United States. Dr. Mir enjoys traveling and recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of swimming with turtles in Hawaii.

Her heart holds a deep appreciation for history, especially the Medieval period. She would also relish the idea of living in a Scottish castle for a week, immersing herself in the world of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

If she could be a student in someone's class, Dr. Mir would choose scientist and animal-rights activist, Jane Goodall. In her inspiring 2016 commencement address at the University of Redlands, she emphasized the power of individuals bringing about significant change.

Every single one of us makes an impact on the planet every single day, and we get to choose what sort of impact that is.”
