Montessori Primary Care Program (MPC)

Montessori Primary Care Program offers care for Alcuin School Primary students before and after school. The emphasis of the program is to generate a sense of family and community and to deal with the practical daily needs of children of this age: outside play, the noon meal, nap, and free choice of work or play. This busy but predictable schedule provides a sense of security so important to this age group.

As an “all-day program,” it is open to Alcuin School Primary students from families where both parents work outside of the home and need care 5 days a week. The program is open from 7:15-8:00 am when the children are escorted to their classroom's carpool benches. The 3 and 4 year olds who stay throughout the day go to MPC at 11:45 a.m. after morning dismissal. Extended day children (5 to 6 year olds only) join MPC at 3:00 pm. MPC closes promptly at 6:00 pm.

Activities are designed and facilitated by a Montessori guide who works with the staff to ensure fidelity to the Montessori philosophy. While MPC will not duplicate the regular Montessori classroom, the approach to the child, the kinds of activities, and the general expectations will be consistent with what the children experience in their regular classroom.

Before and After School Enrichment (BASE)

Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) offers care for students elementary aged and older. The emphasis of the program is to provide a creative and relaxing space for students to engage in play, projects or homework. BASE takes place in the Innovation Studio, and students are free to utilize the indoor and outdoor environments.

BASE offers a mornings-only option, a 3-day option, as well as a 5-day option to increase flexibility for busy families. BASE opens at 7:15am and students independently head to their classrooms at 8. (Middle schoolers are released at 7:45am.) On typical school days, students arrive in the afternoons at 3:25pm and may stay until 6:00pm. When Alcuin has early release, students are brought to BASE at their dismissal time. BASE Athletics provides care for those students who play on Alcuin’s athletic teams on practice and game days.

On in-service days and during Bridge times, students have access to all day care. Trips are planned for students on these days to allow them the opportunity to explore the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. Students who are not registered for BASE year round are welcome to sign up for Bridge time or the one-day trips throughout the school year. Bridge time offers a slightly shorter day, ending promptly at 5:30pm.
