At the TAPPS 2A State Golf Tournament in Waco this month, the sophomore blew past a field of 35 competitors and won her first state title by 23 shots, shooting a two-day total of 150.

 

“It was an incredible feeling at the end,” said Schachtel, who is also a two-time golf varsity captain. “I’ve put in so much work and to see it pay off is really satisfying. Even still, I have high expectations for myself and I know I can get better.”

 

This season Schachtel medaled in two tournaments, placed second at the Denton Ryan Invitational and the Jesuit Invitational, and won the TAPPS 2A Regional Championship, shooting a 74.

 

Her average score as a sophomore: 76.

 

“Having had the privilege of coaching Adysn since she was in middle school it's hard for me to put into words how proud of what she has accomplished thus far in such a short amount of time,” said Seth Sayler, head varsity golf coach. “Her golf accomplishments are certainly a feat to be proud of and they have a rippling effect across Alcuin's golf program as a whole. Golf is just a game, but it's a game that can help mold and shape who you are as a person.”

 

Schachtel was named varsity team captain as a freshman and proceeded to win the Jesuit Invitational, going toe-to-toe with seniors headed to major collegiate golf programs. She was also Alcuin’s first female varsity golfer in the young program’s history, blazing a trail for girls who’ve shown interest in golf.

 

“We are so incredibly proud of what Adysn has accomplished in two short years as a member of the varsity golf team,” said Andy Silverman, Alcuin’s director of athletics. “She is a special talent, an even better teammate, and continues not only to set a high standard, but chart a new course for future female golfers here at Alcuin.”
